Background

EMS Racing was first established by in 1999, in preparation for competition in the 2000 season.  The team was established and is under the directorship of Pat & Philip Duke who did so wishing to play a more active role in the sport which they had enjoyed competing in for many years.  In sponsoring motor cycle racing, all at EMS are anxious to encourage and develop safety for riders, both on and off the track.

In 2000 the team raced 2 bikes (a 125cc Honda and 250cc Yamaha) competing in the Irish Road and Irish / English Short Circuit Competitions where they did so with notable successes, gaining numerous podium places.  The team was joined mid season by a team manager, Billy McKinstry, bringing considerable experience as a rider and team manager at Irish, UK and International level. Billy was a Motor Cycle Union of Ireland (MCUI) license holder over three decades (60's,70's & 80's) competing in Irish & International off-road competitions and as a sponsor himself he had enjoyed numerous successes and podium positions at British Championships, the Dutch TT, the Isle of Man, the North West 200 and the Ulster Grand Prix to name but a few.

In 2001, EMS Racing signed Mark Lunney and under the managment of Billy McKinstry secured 1st Place in the Irish 125cc s/c Championship and a 3rd Place in the Irish Super-Kings Championship. While the competition in the UK:MRO was tough the team performed well and managed to secure a number of podium positions - including a 1st place at Silverstone!

2002 saw some changes with rider Mark Lunney and team manager Billy McKinstry moving on to pastures new and EMS Racing signing upcoming riders Declan Swanton jnr. and Alan O'Connor.  Alongside this, the team has now acquired a former Team Crescent Suzuki UK (ex. J. Croxford) GSXR 1000cc for competition in Ireland and Europe. New Manager Eddie Laycock, who had in effect run two teams Declan in Europe and alan in Ireland, joined the team.

The European season started off in Valencia, Spain last March with Declan dut he was injured early in the season in Aghadowey, and again in a road traffic accident midseason, which sidelined him, Michael Laverty was brought in to replace Declan. It was with Michael that EMS Racing reached the high point of its season with a fantastic finish to win in Assen, Holland. This put EMS Racing firmly on the European Map.
Meanwhile back in Ireland Alan raced consistently throughout the season on both the 125cc Honda and 250cc Yamaha, to finish 4th in the 125cc Championship and 5th place in the 250cc despite not taking part in all the rounds

For 2003 EMS Racing will again take part in the European Superstock with John Laverty and brother Michael on board for selected rounds. We have two new GSXR 1000 Suzukis ordered and will also contest the 600 Irish Championship with a new R6 Yamaha ridden by Alan O'Connor.

2003 saw EMS Racing start the season off with both Michael and John Laverty on board our 2002 Suzukis as we awaited delivery of the new K3s , Valencia was the only meeting with both riders as Michael had been offered a British Supersport ride for 2003.We wish Michael all the best for the future. John had joined the team on a 2 year deal for the European Superstock Championships, year one to learn the tracks and more importantly to get to grips with the big 4- stroke machines and John had previously raced 125cc machines. The season went well and John even managed to get on the podium in Imola , Italy ,not bad for his first visit to the circuit.John finished in 14th place in the Championship a great result considering it was his first season on the big Suzuki on unknown tracks

2004 was part two of John Lavertys two year deal and we decided to change from Suzuki to Yamaha and to compete in both the British and European Superstock Championships as they did not clash with each other. The change of machine caused a few problems early on but these were sorted out and things went very well.John finished off the season with a pole in Oulton, 3rd place in Donington, and in 4th in both Imola and Magny Cours and finished in 8th place in both Championships John finished so well he earned himself a British Superbike ride for 2005.We again find ourselves wishing another EMS rider all the best as he moves onwards and upwards.

2005 will again see EMS heading off to the European Superstock Championships at this stage  discussions are still on going as we look for a replacement rider.

2006 EMS Racing
are delighted to announce that they will field the two man team of reigning South African Superbike Champion Sheridan Morais and rising Irish star Mark Pollock in the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup.
